Student Support That Works for You
Completing a qualification with Master Builders can offer the flexibility you need to balance your education with work and life. However, it also requires the right support structures to ensure you stay on track. At Master Builders, we understand that students need more than just course content. We provide access to expert guidance, a user-friendly student platform, and reliable support to make your student experience as smooth as possible.
Whether you’re on the tools or managing a site or two, our support systems are designed to help you return to study. We’ll guide you through every step of the way from enrolment all the way through to completion.
A Smarter, More Flexible Way to Learn
At Master Builders, we design qualification programs for busy professionals and tradespeople. Our online student platform is available 24/7 and accessible from any device, so you can study when and where it suits you. All the essentials are at your fingertips: course notes, video tutorials, assessment tools, and communication channels.
For students undertaking Recognition of Prior Learning, the platform also supports evidence uploads, including photos and time-lapse videos to demonstrate practical skills, which is an essential part of validating your experience in the industry.
You don’t have to be tech-savvy to succeed. The system is straightforward and intuitive, and our team is available to help you get set up and comfortable right from the start.
Online Induction to Get You Started
To help you hit the ground running, we offer an online induction when you enrol into a qualification. This includes a walkthrough of the online student platform, assessment tips, and an overview of the Q&A forums and support services that are available to you. We also share advice on staying motivated, managing your time, and developing effective study habits.
It’s a great way to ease into your course, especially if you’re returning to study after a long time. We will make sure you are familiar with who’s who in the student support team and equip you with everything you need to stay on track with your qualification.
Live and Written Q&A Forums with Industry Experts
Students access to our live Q&A forums, held every Monday and Thursday evening from 4pm to 7pm. These sessions give you the chance to speak directly with our qualified trainers, who are industry professionals and understand what it takes to succeed in construction.
You can ask questions, get clarification on assessments, and listen to discussions that often highlight points you may not have considered. It’s like being in a virtual classroom, without leaving your home or worksite.
We spoke with Master Builders trainer and assessor Richard Lansdowne about the value of the Q&A sessions for students.
“The online Q&A forums are invaluable live sessions between trainers and students. They are particularly helpful for students who are busy with their workdays.
The most common issue I find is that students overthink the question and then hesitate to submit their answers. The Q&A forums help the students to understand the questions more effectively by breaking them down and putting them into the context of industry examples.
Since the Q&A forums started, I have seen a real positive impact on how the students’ progress with their studies. Building students are now striving to complete their assessments correctly the first time and on time”.
If you can’t attend live, you won’t miss out. Our Q&A forums are written and available on each subject page, where you can browse previously answered questions or ask your own at any time.
Self-Paced Tutorials and Study Support
One of the biggest advantages for Master Builders students is the library of recorded tutorial videos. You can watch these at your own pace, pause when needed, and revisit them as many times as you like. They’re particularly useful for reinforcing complex topics or preparing for assessments.
We also provide how-to videos to guide you through the Recognition of Prior Learning process, from collecting evidence to submitting assessments and using your phone for time-lapse photography. These videos are short, practical, and designed to keep you moving forward with your assessments.
Dedicated Student Support That Stays with You
Completing your qualification online doesn’t mean you’re on your own. Our student support team is here to help from the day you enrol. We schedule monthly check-ins to talk through your progress, help you set study goals, and address any challenges you might be facing.
Need help planning your workload around a busy job site? We’ll work with you to set a realistic schedule and keep your momentum on track. Communication is key to success, and our team is happy to adjust timelines according to your schedule to keep you on track.
We also provide progress trackers so that you can monitor your submitted quizzes and practical tasks. These can even be printed and kept in your vehicle for quick reference on-site. You’ll also receive a clear fee schedule, so you know exactly when invoices will be issued with no surprises.
Catching up with Master Builders graduate Mitchell Dawson
We had the opportunity to chat with recently graduated student Mitchell Dawson about his positive student experience at Master Builders.
Mitchell has completed three qualifications with the Master Builders, including the Certificate IV in Building and Construction in 2023, the Diploma of Building and Construction in 2024, and is now enrolled in the Certificate III in Carpentry.
How did you get started with the Master Builders?
“I first came across Master Builders through an online ad, but what drew me in was my existing connection with the membership Association.
I’m working for a major project builder who’s a member of the Master Builders Association of NSW. We entered our designs in the Excellence in Housing Awards, so I already had a level of trust and familiarity.
My long-term goal is to become a licensed builder in the South Coast region, and Master Builders has offered a clear educational pathway to achieve this.
I transitioned from an administration role to hands-on construction in early 2024, and the qualifications through Master Builders helped me take that next step in my career.”
You’ve completed three different qualifications with the Master Builders – what does Master Builders do to help with your training?
“The support I got from the trainers was massive.
I joined the Q&A sessions early on and asked a lot of questions. The trainers explain what was expected, simplified the concepts, and made sure I wasn’t overcomplicating things.
Each trainer has industry experience in different areas, so they could offer real-world, industry-specific advice. They care about helping you understand the material.
At Norwest, the Education training centre is set up in a really practical and easy-to-follow way. Instead of being overwhelmed by the scale of construction on-site, Master Builders breaks down the process so you can see how everything fits together.”
What would you say to someone who’s unsure about starting with Master Builders?
“Don’t be scared – just go for it. Master Builders is a respected name in the construction industry, not some random third-party provider. They’re truly invested in supporting all tradespeople, not just builders.
Having a qualification from Master Builders looks great on your resume, and the training is flexible, online, hands-on and practical.
I finished my Cert III in Carpentry just a few weeks ago, and the trainers at Norwest, especially Ben and Darren, were a huge help. They take the time to show you how things are done properly.”
