But first, you must secure an apprenticeship with an employer. Master Builders NSW is also a Group Training Organisation and can help you in the process of securing a Carpentry apprenticeship or changing employers. Mature-age students and those pursuing non-apprenticeship pathways are also welcome to enrol into the Carpentry training program.

There’s never been a better time to start an apprenticeship in NSW. The NSW Government is paying the course cost for new apprenticeships – meaning apprentices undertaking a government-funded apprenticeship no longer face a student fee of up to $2000.

In NSW, apprenticeships are fee-free until 30 June 2027– meaning no upfront training costs for students or employers. And best of all, there are government incentives of up to $10,000 for eligible apprentices. Master Builders NSW Carpentry training course includes access to tools, learning materials and books.

*Am I eligible?

Fee-free apprenticeships are available to NSW apprentices – including school-based apprentices whose training:

  • is funded under the NSW Government’s Smart and Skilled Program
  • commences before 30 June 2027.

If you withdrew from your apprenticeship before 1 July 2018 and recommenced your apprenticeship with the same or a new employer and restarted your Smart and Skilled apprenticeship course before 30 June 2027, the remainder of your apprenticeship course will be free.

Training is delivered in blocks, with attendance required every seven to eight weeks on average, allowing apprentices to focus on one complete skill set before returning to site to apply what they have learnt. This structure not only builds confidence and retention but also gives employers greater flexibility to plan their apprentices Carpentry skills development around project schedules.

Classes start early at 7.30am and finish at 3.30pm, to get around peak hour travel times. Safety is our number 1 priority, and this is embedded into safe work practices training at Master Builders every day. Apprentices have access to their learning materials and resources online 24/7.

Apprentices and employers have access to personalised customer service with a quarterly training update. Training plans let employers know how their apprentice is progressing in their study. Customer service can be accessed at any time during training to address any specific learning requirements, or to help with any questions you may have. We are open and contactable all year round, except for Christmas closedown period.

The team at Master Builders has designed a flexible training structure, meaning that apprentices can start their training at any time throughout the year, not just at one or two scheduled intake periods. The flexible schedule also affords apprentices who miss a class block to make it within a reasonable timeframe.

The CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry nationally accredited qualification that takes 3 years to complete. First-year apprentices begin with safety and foundational skills, while learning introductory skills on framing, foundations, flooring systems, trusses and roofs. In the second year, students construct a 30 sqm granny flat-sized home with timber frames and steel frames, floors, installation of windows and doors, and ceilings. By the third year, apprentices complete full home structures, mastering stairs, wet areas, cladding and roof systems.

Building Commission NSW provides all licensing for tradespeople who work in the building and construction industry of New South Wales.
