Master Builders NSW Launches Industry First Diploma of Construction Waterproofing Design and Survey to Address Critical Industry Challenges.
In response to increasing demand and concerns over building defects due to waterproofing failures in the construction sector, a new qualification has been introduced to the Australian education landscape, the CPC50722 Diploma of Construction Waterproofing Design and Survey. The Diploma is designed to provide industry professionals with the critical skills needed to assess, design and remedy waterproofing systems for a range of construction projects.
The entire waterproofing process from design to application is a major contributor to compliant building design, yet is often faced with the most challenges. Practices during the entire process are improving, though still have some room for further advancements. The new Diploma aims to address a pressing gap in specialised training.
Master Builders NSW Education Department is the first Registered Training Organisation across Australia to offer a training and assessment program for this vital Diploma qualification, giving experienced and knowledgeable waterproofing specialists the chance to be formally recognised in their field.
The course is tailored for professionals involved in planning, design and implementation stages of construction projects. This includes building consultants, engineers (structural and hydraulic), architects, certifiers and remedial engineers. By offering a curriculum that integrates construction codes, compliance requirements and modern waterproofing strategies, the Diploma sets out to help improve the overall standard of buildings across New South Wales and beyond.
The Diploma covers a comprehensive suite of topics from identifying water ingress sources to designing effective waterproofing solutions and drafting remedial specifications. Subjects include “Design External Above Ground Waterproofing” and “Survey Waterproofing Systems,” blending both theoretical knowledge and practical application.
The qualification is now available and offered online by Master Builders Association of NSW, with Recognition of Prior Learning already available for industry professionals. The online course offers flexibility, allowing students to develop their expertise without compromising their workload.
Support for the new qualification has already been voiced by the NSW Building Commission, which highlighted the Diploma’s potential to strengthen industry knowledge and drive compliance improvements. Their backing reinforces the Diploma’s significance in addressing the ongoing waterproofing crisis in the state.
Darin Grace, Manager of Master Builders NSW Education and Skills, stated, “We’re proud to be leading the industry with a first-in-market qualification that will elevate industry standards and improve outcomes for building owners and occupants alike. This Diploma qualification provides an opportunity for professionals to deepen their expertise in waterproofing at a time when it’s never been more essential.”
